Story: Principal allegedly tried to cover-up grade change
Summary: Athletes get failing grades. Principal tells teacher to to change grades so athletes can be eligible. Athletes lead basketball and football teams to state playoffs. Everyone knows that sports come before morals or education. It sucks for the students who actually have to study and earn good grades. We are paving quite the yellow brick road for these students future. It's not contradictory at all.

Really? This isn't so surprising. Principles force teachers to change grades all the time. We aren't given the option. The only thing that makes this special is that there is an athlete involved and the teacher made a stink about it. Numerous students have been pushed through high school when they didn't deserve it for the sake of graduation rates, because they're special education, or because they're parents are high profile. Same story- different motive... it's a sad day in education when there is no real accountability- for anyone.
I've always been in favor of giving them a free ride. McDonald's are constantly opening new places and, we need someone to work there.
U.S. schools are really shining, huh?
I have a friend who teaches in Western Maryland, where they are not allowed to fail members of the high school football team. He also isn't allowed to give any student a grade below 50, even if the kid doesn't turn in an assignment. You can thank No Child Left Behind for nonsense like this.
It's not just Western Maryland. How about the prestigious Montgomery County (Maryland) Public School system, where the lowest permissible grade is 50% on attempted work? Something never turned in is still a zero. Students also get a chance to retake quizzes for a higher grade. Sweet!
