Study Finds Little Benefit in New SAT

Story: Study Finds Little Benefit in New SAT

"
The 3-hour, 45-minutes test is almost as good a predictor as four years of high school grades..." says Laurence Bunin, senior vice president of operations at the board, and general manager of the SAT program.
Laurence, quick question buddy. Why not just use the four years of high school grades? I guess you couldn't charge students $45 each -- and the students would save almost 4 hours of their time, not to mention the books, hours and hours of prep, and stress.

Let's just do away with these useless tests. Why do we need to predict how well kids will do anyway? If they want to go, let them experience it.

Wrong.

I scored over 1500 on my SATs (don't remember the exact number, it was 1503 or 1507 or something (15 years ago and irrelevent now))

I was a straight C student. Why? Because school bored the hell out of me. The teachers were arrogant or apathetic. I learned the things I was being taught in high school in CA 3 years earlier in UT (military brat). If it were not for my SAT scores I would have had a much harder time getting into college, where I still got poor grades despite a 138-142 (depending on the test) IQ. (college was boring too, my fault for picking a degree program that I did not like, but ended up committed to so I could graduate on time to take a job I wanted) I still graduated and am kicking butt in the real world. Why? My job doesn't bore me. I place my effort where thee is tangible return or intellectual/emotional satisfaction.

-College graduate, debt-free, homeowner, father, husband, 'C' student.

Grades are an indicator of NOTHING.

Thanks for the comment. However, George W Bush posted the same thing a week ago.

That's your response to a personal refute of the claim that SAT scores and grades correlate? A Bush joke?

Profound on so many levels.

what everyone forgets is that the College Board is a corporation that is in business to increase share value. That is why you brats need to take the SAT. Our stockholders need the money.
